Hi, I'm Lilyana — founder & head baker.

Birdie's Baking Co. started in my home kitchen in Columbia City, Indiana in 2022. What began as baking pies for family quickly grew into a small-batch bakery serving birthdays, weddings, showers, and holiday tables across the Fort Wayne metro.

I bake every pie, cake, and cookie by hand, in small batches, with real butter, fresh fruit, and ingredients I'd serve my own family. No mixes. No shortcuts. Just careful, scratch baking that tastes like it was made for you — because it was.

Before Birdie's became a business, I had spent more than a decade baking out of family kitchens in northeast Indiana — pies for Thanksgiving tables in Whitley County, custom cakes for cousins' birthdays, the occasional wedding cake for friends. I taught myself the craft from old recipes, hours of testing, and a lot of failed crusts. By 2022, the requests outpaced the favor economy, and I made it official.

I bake an average of 80–120 pies during Thanksgiving week alone, and we have completed wedding cakes for couples across Whitley, Allen, Noble, and Kosciusko counties. Every recipe on the menu has been tested in our kitchen against at least one professional reference (King Arthur, Stella Parks, Rose Levy Beranbaum) — we do not ship a recipe we have not vetted ourselves.

Birdie's operates as a home-based bakery under Indiana's Home-Based Vendor law (Indiana Code 16-42-5.3). Every order is labeled with full ingredient and allergen information, and we file the kitchen-license documentation that Indiana requires for direct-to-consumer baked goods.

Credentials, training & references

Self-taught baker since 2010, full-time professional since 2022. Recipes are tested against at least one professional reference before they ship — primarily King Arthur Baking, Stella Parks (BraveTart), and Rose Levy Beranbaum. Every wedding-cake build is dry-run at least once before the actual wedding bake, especially for tier counts above three.

Birdie's Baking Co. operates as a home-based bakery under Indiana Code 16-42-5.3 (the Home-Based Vendor law), administered by the Indiana State Department of Health. Every order ships with the required producer disclosure, full ingredient list, and allergen statement covering the eight major allergens. Allergen practices follow FDA major-allergen labeling guidance. Cross-contamination is disclosed: our kitchen handles wheat, dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, and soy — we cannot guarantee a fully allergen-free environment. Gluten-friendly, dairy-free, and egg-free substitutions are available with advance notice and are labeled accordingly.

  • Handmade pies — apple, cherry, pecan, sugar cream (Indiana's state pie), French silk, peanut butter, pumpkin, strawberry rhubarb. All-butter crusts, fresh-fruit fillings.
  • Custom birthday & celebration cakes — vanilla, chocolate, lemon, red velvet, strawberry, with vanilla buttercream, chocolate buttercream, or fruit fillings. 7–10 day lead time.
  • Event catering — corporate, showers, holidays, and dessert tables across the Fort Wayne metro.
