Order Policies

Plain-English deposit, cancellation, allergen, pickup, and privacy policies for Birdie's Baking Co. orders.

Deposits and payment

Standard custom cakes (under $200) are paid in full at the time of booking through our online checkout, which uses Stripe for secure payment processing.

Wedding cakes and larger custom orders ($200+) require a 50% non-refundable deposit to reserve the date. The remaining balance is due no later than 14 days before pickup. We send an invoice 21 days out as a reminder.

Cancellations and refunds

Cancellations on standard custom cakes received 14 or more days before pickup are eligible for a partial refund (order total minus the non-refundable deposit). Cancellations inside 14 days of pickup forfeit the order total.

Wedding cake deposits are non-refundable. They may be transferred to a future date one time, subject to availability, if rescheduling is requested at least 30 days before the original event date. If the bakery is unable to fulfill the order due to a cause within our control, a full refund is issued promptly.

Allergens and dietary accommodations

Our Columbia City kitchen handles wheat, dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, and soy. We cannot guarantee a fully allergen-free environment for guests with severe allergies.

Gluten-friendly, dairy-free, and egg-free substitutions are available on most cakes and pies with advance notice. Allergen accommodations typically add $10–$25 per cake. Please disclose all dietary restrictions at the time of booking.

Pickup

All orders are pickup-only from Columbia City, Indiana, during our pickup windows: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 10:00 AM–6:00 PM. The exact pickup address is shared by email after the order is confirmed. Pickup time is coordinated 48 hours before the order is ready. Late or missed pickups beyond the same-day window forfeit the order.

Indiana home-based vendor compliance

Birdie's Baking Co. operates as a home-based bakery under Indiana's Home-Based Vendor law ( Indiana Code 16-42-5.3). All baked goods are sold direct-to-consumer, labeled with the required home-produced disclosure, full ingredient list, and an allergen statement covering the eight major allergens, and produced in compliance with Indiana State Department of Health guidance for home-based vendors. Local oversight is through the Whitley County Health Department.

Privacy

We collect only the information needed to fulfill an order: your name, email address, pickup details, and (when paying online) payment data processed by Stripe under their privacy policy. We do not sell, rent, or share customer information with third parties.

Email correspondence is retained as part of order history. You may request deletion of your information at any time by emailing hello@birdiesbakingco.com.
